Brendan Evje sat down with Matt Moss, Assistant Vice Provost of Dining and Auxiliary Services at Johns Hopkins University, to talk about what it really takes to move major dining investments forward.

Johns Hopkins is currently in a significant investment phase, updating the dining program across the full campus, from residential to retail. Matt draws on that experience to discuss how to frame the case for change to senior leadership: not just as a financial need, but as an investment in student experience and campus culture.

The conversation also gets into change management: one of the most underestimated parts of any large-scale project. From hourly staff adjusting to new facilities to other campus departments questioning the need for change, Matt shares how he thinks about the people impacted on all sides of these transitions.

Matt’s takeaway? A well-constructed plan that outlines the benefits beyond revenue (dining as a gathering space, a culture driver, a core part of student life) will carry further with senior leadership than financials alone.
